Hello,
I am originally from Ontario, Canada, but have been residing in Britain for over 22 years now. I became an official British citizen in 2013, which made me immensely proud. Due to the length of time that I've been in the UK, I have a good ear for both North American and British voices. Thanks to having 10+ years of transcribing experience, I am quite decent with understanding most accents. Some are more tricky than others, but I am always willing to transcribe any accent, and I do not charge extra for non-British accents.
Please note that in 2023 I returned to full-time employment in the field of criminal justice. This has now become a side business for me and I am only available a few weekends a month. I would be happy to work on your project if you pre-book it with me. I am very unlikely to be able to do any rush projects without notice. My non-transcription working background includes ten years of market research experience, five years working in the financial sector, and five years of auditing recorded crime. I have an undergraduate university degree in social sciences and love learning new things that are going on in the fields of psychology, criminology, sociology and healthcare. |
My audio transcription background includes over five years of transcribing PACE (police and criminal evidence act) interviews. Through my time running Trusty Transcriptionists (over eight years now!) I have extensive experience with most general transcription work. I specialise in transcribing interviews for academic researchers, writers, human resources professionals and market research companies.
I worked for the police for 11 years, which I loved. They were such terrific people to work with and taught me so much. However, due to cutbacks and relocation of my job, I made the difficult decision to leave the police service. I decided to take the opportunity to follow one of my dreams and run my own small business, and so Trusty Transcriptionists was born in March 2014! I have always enjoyed transcription work, as you learn new things from every interview transcribed.
On a more personal note, some of my more entertaining jobs in the past included being a supporting cast member on an episode of Friday the 13th the TV series, in the 1980s. I have done voiceover work for several corporate gigs and voicemail systems. I had a short stint working for a newspaper in the 1990s in the classifieds department (remember those?) I spent a university semester researching vice crime by trawling through dated library microfiche (ah the good old days!) During my high school years I did the obligatory stint at several fast-food outlets. I tried my hand in retail for about six months at a dance and costume store. I also did a temp job at a library in the 1980s, which I loved. In addition to all of that, I was a terrible waitress. I only lasted for three days! That career came to a spectacular ending when I poured green pea soup all over a businessman on his lunch hour! At this point, my manager and I collectively decided that it was not the job for me. If I were to have my dream job, I would have liked to be a psychologist.
I am currently learning Spanish (I took a course at college and am carrying on from there using a language app). I am an avid football fan. I have become quite an armchair expert in mindfulness. I was an elderly befriender volunteer a few years ago and am looking to return to this in the future as I found it very rewarding. I find watching older films relaxing (pre-1990's are my favourites). I enjoy jigsaw puzzles and Scrabble. A few years ago, I discovered that I suffer from a mild form of prosopagnosia- facial blindness. It means I am a nightmare to watch movies with because I have great difficulty recognising the actors! I have little interest in celebrity culture (possibly because of the facial blindness, I have recently hypothesised!) I love to travel and am very passionate about learning about different cultures. I plan on taking up the ukulele later this year, just for fun. Why the ukulele? It is supposedly one of the easiest instruments to learn how to play later in life. Time will tell! (PS the ukulele has been sitting in a box for seven months now, I am not progressing very well with this goal!!)
As you know, life is short so make the most of it! Your time is precious, so let me save you some time and hassle by sending me your transcription work. You'll be happy you did! Drop me a line, and we'll get started on your transcripts.
